GPRS
General Packet Radio Service. It is sometimes called 2.5G because it is a technology which falls between the second (2G) and third (3G) generations of mobile technology. It provides moderate speed data transfer.
GPS
'Global Positioning System' and is a satellite navigation system made up of 24 GPS satellites. A GPS receiver can collect this information and use it to find out exactly where it is at that time. This works in any weather, at any time, anywhere on the planet.
Megabyte (MB)
A Megabyte is a unit of data. The larger the amount of data that you browse or download from the Mobile Internet, the higher the charge.
MMS
Multimedia Message Service (MMS). These allow you to send pictures, videos and emails from your mobile phone.
Mobile data pack
A mobile data pack may also be called a web pack, data plan or data service. It is a plan that you can go on to with your mobile carrier which includes a certain amount of monthly Mobile Internet usage within your mobile plan. It is measured in terms of the 'data' that you access when browsing the Mobile Internet.
Mobile Internet site
A Mobile Internet site is similar to a regular Internet website. However, it has been especially designed to fit the screen of a mobile phone, and use less Megabytes of data.
M-Site
Off Deck mobile site
Mobile sites that can be accessed by anyone who has a web enabled mobile and a data plan regardless of who their carrier is.
On Deck mobile carrier portal
Mobile sites that are accessed via your own mobile carrier portal. Only customers of that specific carrier can access these mobile sites.
PSMS
Premium Short Message Service (PSMS). These allow you to enter competitions and subscribe to services. Not all plans include PSMS capability.
Ringtone
A ringtone is music that plays when you receive a call. You can either use one of the standard ringtones that are pre-set on your phone, or you can download a new one of your choice.
SMS
Short Message Service (SMS). These allow you to send text messages from your mobile phone.
URL
Universal Resource Locator (URL). An Internet address which you type in to your browser to view a particular Internet site.
Wallpaper
The default image or photo which is on the screen of your mobile phone. You will get a wallpaper selection for free with your mobile phone and can choose to download others from the Mobile Internet if you wish.
WAP
Wireless Application Protocol. The technology that brings Internet sites to mobile phones.
WAP push
A text message which contains a link to a website within it. If you click through you get to the website.
Website
A site on the Internet.
Wi-Fi
The name of a wireless technology that lets a computer, mobile phone or PDA (Personal Digital Assistant) access the Internet without using cables and plugs.
